We have been created in the image of God (Gen 1:26-27). Many of us just don’t see a Godly image when we look at ourselves. We see an image distorted by the things of this world. Past mistakes, people’s labels for us, and Satan’s lies fill our thoughts and we begin to see ourselves dimly. 1 Corinthians 13:12 says “For now we see in a mirror, dimly, but then face to face. Now I know in part, but then I shall know just as I also am known.”
The above passage refers to the fact that while we are on earth we will never understand everything. That will only happen when we stand face to face with God. However, today we can know how God sees us once we have been redeemed by the blood of Christ. Then we can begin to align our “self-image” with His image.
Here are just a few verses that tell us what our heavenly Father sees when He looks at us. He sees us as:
- Justified (Romans 5:1) and forgiven (Colossians 1:14)
- His children (John 1:12, Ephesians 1:5) and a prince/princess in His kingdom (John 1:12, 1 Timothy 6:15)
- His light in this world (Matthew 5:14)
- His workmanship (Ephesians 2:10) being perfected (Philippians 1:6)
- Holy (Hebrews 2:11)
God knows us and loves us so much. There are so many more verses that tell us how much. Once we begin to think of ourselves as His creation, His work in-progress, how can we constantly find faults in that work? No, we are not perfect, and will not be until we get to heaven, but we are being perfected.
Choose today to begin renewing your mind (Romans 12:2) and image. Read your Bible, apply God’s word to the blemishes in your self-image. He will give you a makeover to conform you to His image.
Today let’s march forth with a clearer view of who we are in Christ and claim that makeover.
Be a blessing,
